Overview

College of Stomatology, Guangxi Medical University (GXMUCS) has been educating dental students since 1978, when the Stomatological Discipline of the former Guangxi Medical College was set up to offer five-year course leading to bachelor degree in dentistry. In 1983, it grew into the Stomatological Faculty and was renamed College of Stomatology of Guangxi Medical University in 1998. As a leading dental school and the largest provider of oral health care service in Guangxi, GXMUCS is dedicated to combining higher education, clinical care and research with community service.

The college boasts a host of an ideal setting of learning and it has become a base for fostering not only top educators and leading scholars in dental sciences, but also the main force to guide schools of stomatology in Guangxi. It owns the best resource for dental education in Guangxi and a proud history of prominent faculty and staff who are devoted to the advancement of oral health. The college owns faculty and staff of 533. Among them, there are 70 senior faculty members, 26 mentors for Ph.D. and M.S., 2 experts receiving special allowances from the State Council, 1 Vice President of Chinese Stomatological Association and 26 visiting professors. The college offers professional courses in dentistry to the students from both home and abroad with the aid of advanced teaching facilities. It has established friendly partnership with universities of higher learning from more than 10 nations and regions such as Temple University, National Autonomous University of Mexico, Radbound University Nijmegen, Kaohsiung Medical University and Chung Shan Medical University with regular mutual exchanges being conducted between faculty members and students.

GXMUCS also serves as a main center in the field of dental research. At present, the college has 1 academic leader of Program for Changjiang Scholars and Innovative Research Team, 2 key disciplines in provincial level, 1 provincial key laboratory, 1 key laboratory of provincial universities of higher learning and 1 innovative team of provincial universities of higher learning. Wide-ranging research projects have been conducted over multiple areas, of which 31 projects funded by National Nature Science Foundation of China, 2 sub-projects of National key technology program for national 11th Five Year Plan, 1 international cooperation project, 60 provincial scientific research projects and 118 projects in bureau level. In recent five years, it has received 11 key awards for scientific research. Great achievements have been made in various fields and published in both national and international dental journals.

Since its establishment in 1993, the affiliated Stomatological Hospital has developed into one of the most advanced dental hospitals in China and the largest one in Guangxi, with 16 departments, 3 wards, 3 comprehensive clinics, 170 dental units and 100 in-patient beds. The hospital annually treats about 220,000 outpatients and admits over 2000 inpatients. It makes every effort to facilitate a favorable environment and patient-centered health care service for its patients. The college is now in the midst of the most exciting time in its history. The commitment of its faculty, staff and alumni to be excellent in education, research, health care and community service ensures high quality and prestige of the college. The College is always open and welcomes exchanges and collaborations with worldwide counterparts.
