1. Basic and Clinical Researches on Reconstruction of Craniomaxillofacial Deformities and Defects
a) Research on Orthognathic Surgery and Distraction Osteogenesis
Clinical treatment of all kinds of orocraniomaxillofacial deformities, postoperative vascularity change of maxillomandibular osteotomies, the mechanisms of bone healing and distraction regeneration, the expression and regulation of all kinds of cytokines in maxillomandibular distraction, the application of gene transfection technique in promoting the transformation of bone mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) and expression of cytokines have been our main research foci. It was confirmed that tissue engineered bone tissue composed with BMP-2-transfected BMSCs and bio-derived bone materials could successfully promote distraction regeneration.
b) Repair and Reconstruction of the Maxillofacial Defects
Comprehensive corrective and functional reconstruction of various dental, facial deformities, by mean of tissue engineered bone, computer aided design and computer aided manufacture (CAD/CAM) and rapid prototyping technology.
c) Biological Mechanism of Craniofacial Development Clefts Lip Palate
The role of various factors, such as retinoic acid, FGF and bone morphogenetic protein pseudo-receptor, in the regulation process of craniofacial skeletal morphology formation, as well as the impact of retinoic acid signaling molecules in the development of palate cleft were explored, bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells were explored as transplant material in cleft palate bone defect repairing.
2. Research on Mechanism of Head Neck Cancer Occurrence, Invasion Metastasis
VEGF-C was hypothesized as an important marker of oral cancer lymph node metastasis in the study. The clinical and basic researches on stem carcinoma cells and tongue cancer sentinel lymph node were also carried out, to reveal the relation between polymorphisms of folic acid metabolism related enzymes and genetic susceptibility of nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Angiogenesis inhibitors and growth factor inhibitors are screened for anti-tumor targeted therapy.
3. Research on Oral Pathogenic Microorganisms Anti-infection Immune
Including oral manifestations of AIDS, pathogenic microorganisms of the oral candidiosis, and the role and mechanism of antimicrobial peptides such as defensin on oral epithelial immune and saliva diagnosis.
4. Research on Integrated Management of Oral Disease
The correlation between nano-bacteria and caries, periapical and dental pulp diseases, periodontal diseases, the biological therapy to the development termination of young permanent teeth coursed by various damages is under investigation.
5. Research on Oral Public Health
Epidemiological investigation on the oral health in Guangxi Province revealed that the caries morbidity of both children elder are higher than the average of China, providing scientific evidence for oral healthcare policy amending to local national authorities.
6. Research on Dental Biomaterials Oral Tissue Engineering
The release and regulation of cytokines inside revascularization microenvironment of dental pulp, various dental derived stem cells and synthetic biological scaffolds for dental tissue engineering are under investigation.
7. Clinical and Basic Research on Dental Stem Cells
Exploring functional mechanism of dental stem cells in regeneration and repair of human tissue, and the therapeutical effect of dental stem cells in systemic autoimmune disease.
